This document walks you through initial device setup, secure configuration, daily usage tips, firmware and backup best practices, and where to find official help and downloads. Use the official Trezor Start page and Trezor Suite to complete the device onboarding steps and keep firmware up to date.

H1 — Quick Start: First Boot & Registration

Step 1: Visit the official start page

Use the official onboarding flow at the Trezor Start page to begin. The Start page leads you to download or run Trezor Suite (desktop or web), guides you through the device handshake, and prompts you to create a seed or restore one. Always confirm you are on the official domain before connecting your device.

Step 2: Download & run Trezor Suite

Trezor Suite is the recommended app for device setup, account management, and firmware updates. Choose the desktop app for the smoothest experience or continue in the browser-only flow if needed.

Essential checklist (before you plug in)

• Verify you are on the official site (look for trezor.io).
• Have a pen and secure surface for writing down recovery words.
• Make sure your computer is malware-free and up to date.

H2 — Creating/Restoring a Wallet & Seed Handling

Creating a brand new wallet

Follow the on-screen prompts to initialize a new wallet. The device will display an entropy-derived recovery phrase. Write it down exactly and keep it offline. Consider using Shamir Backup (Model T / higher models) or multiple geographically separated backups for redundancy.

Restoring from seed

If restoring, supply your recovery phrase only on the Trezor hardware device when prompted. Never enter recovery words into a website or software app.

Storage options for your seed

• Paper: simple and inexpensive; guard against fire and theft.
• Steel plate: protects against fire/water and physical damage.
• Shamir/Secret sharing: split seed across multiple locations for higher resilience.

H3 — Daily Use: Sending, Receiving, and Third-party Apps

Confirm every transaction on-device

Always review addresses and amounts on the physical device screen before confirming. Never rely solely on the app’s preview — the device is the final authority.

Third-party integrations

Trezor works with many wallets and services. When connecting third-party apps, ensure they are reputable, and double-check the origin and permissions requested.

H4 — Firmware, Updates & Security Hygiene

Keep firmware up to date

Firmware updates patch security issues and add features. Use Trezor Suite to update firmware and follow the device prompts carefully. Do not attempt to apply unofficial firmware.

General security hygiene

• Buy only from authorized channels and the official store.
• Never share your recovery phrase or private keys.
• Use strong unique passwords for associated accounts and enable 2FA where applicable.

H5 — Troubleshooting & Support

Common issues

If the device is not recognized, check USB cables/ports, try a different machine, and consult the official Support guides. For order or shipping questions, use the Support Order FAQ.

When to contact support

If you suspect theft, corruption of seed, or a supply-chain tamper, contact official support immediately and follow the recommended mitigation steps. Never disclose your recovery phrase when asking for help.
